Soul Expedition 2025 Recap
Soul Expedition Camp 2025 Recap
Drop the Needle on Something Magical
Soul Expedition Camp launched as a transformative one-week musical experience designed to introduce young learners to the rhythms, roots, and cultural legacy of soul music. Guided by professional teaching artists, students engaged in hands on instruction with real instruments, collaborative group lessons, and a culminating performance that showcased both their growth and confidence.
Every student entered the program as a beginner on their instrument, making the camp an accessible and supportive entry point into music education. For many participants, Soul Expedition Camp was more than a music program, it was an introduction to creative expression, discipline, and cultural pride.
What Campers Experienced
Hands On Learning
Campers selected two musical tracks, piano, drums, guitar, or voice, developed foundational skills in rhythm, melody, and teamwork through engaging ensemble-based sessions.
Cultural Discovery
Each day honored the legacy of soul music, connecting students to its history, joy, and lasting cultural impact through guided listening, games, discussions, and performance.
Collaboration & Confidence
Students discovered the power of working together by listening closely, blending their sounds, and building confidence through shared musical creation.
The Grand Finale
Families gathered for a culminating showcase, a high-energy concert where every young musician took the stage, celebrated their growth, and proudly shared what they accomplished.
Apprentice Program Spotlight: From Student to Leader
At Baker Music School, we believe music education should build skill and confidence, but also leadership. That’s why we launched the BMS Apprentice Program, a paid opportunity for advanced students and teen musicians to step into mentorship roles during Soul Expedition Camp and beyond.
We extend our sincere gratitude to The Pittsburgh Foundation for their generous support as the inaugural sponsor of Soul Expedition Camp. Their investment made it possible for this program to launch and for young musicians to begin their musical journeys.
